Allergies

Allergic Rhinitis, a time for change:

Allergies can be a beast. I have had many troubles with them myself over the years. They affected my quality of life and progressed after a time into nasal infections, intense throat infections, and affected my memory and concentration in school.

Because nature includes nurture, I find as a mom of kids with allergies, some of our beloved kiddos may become very difficult dare I say frustrating to care for. They can have big mood swings, and difficulty with exercise or working and playing outdoors. They may have meltdowns when trying to accomplish schoolwork or just become uninterested because they do not feel well enough to think clearly. It also makes colds season a bear, as they may have double the trouble at school and home.

Allergic rhinitis can become so frustrating as to make any kid or adult want to give up trying, whether in school, while playing, or socializing. Over the years I have accumulated a few tips that helped our family with this tricky time.

Practical tips for allergic rhinitis:

1)    Washing up after being outdoors, hands feet, head, arms.

2)    Keeping fresh clothes for indoors and washing sheets, washing pets.

3)    General dusting and sweeping,

4)    Reducing wheat, sugar and processed foods

5)    Raw local honey with ginger and lemon tea may be soothing and relaxing

6)    Adding Omega’s and fish oils keep things moving.

Diet, is one of the main things you may want to help manage as kids become teens. But this may be just when they want to manage their diet for themselves. I am all for independence and learning how to feed oneself so here I can only suggest to my teens - What did you eat over the last day or so that might contribute to how you feel? - as a very occasional reminder.

Homeopathy has made my home so much more livable, teens so much more cooperative, and life quite a bit easier as a mom. Here are some remedies we have benefited from:

Homeopathy for allergic rhinitis:

Some allergies are intense or ongoing, year after year, without real relief. Here are a few remedies that often help allergic rhinitis:

1)    Natrum Mur – for clear and runny discharge with violent sneezing

2)    Pulsatilla – for thick and goopy mucus

3)    Apis – for itching, hives and sneezing

And there are many more remedies for ongoing symptoms. Homeopathy is most successful when it is chosen to match an overall specific symptom picture. Some may have headaches, others ear infections, others a tummy ache with their allergy symptoms. Taking it, all together including the history of medications, vaccinations, and food sensitivities all help a homeopath come to good conclusive results when finding a remedy for you. These and other symptoms I would be happy to help navigate, so you can move on to what you do best!
